Obedience Training
Dartmoor Retrievers offers basic obedience training for all breeds of dogs. Paul Bothelo is available for group classes and for private training sessions, either at your home or at a Dartmoor Retriever training location. Whenever possible, he works with the whole family in order to ensure continuity in your dog's training.
Basic obedience training is the foundation of any dog's education and it is especially important for retrievers.
Technique
Paul believes in the correct use of technique and abides by the Barbara Woodhouse method of training. Pinch collars are not used during training as Paul believes in controlling the dog with skill and timing, rather than with pain. During this training, basic obedience is covered, including the commands: Sit, Stay, Here, and Down. You will learn to heel your dog properly, both on and off lead, and to recall him or her with voice and a whistle. If desired, collar conditioning can be taught so that your dog learns to respond correctly to an E collar. After a dog completes basic obedience training, Paul is happy to discuss helping you move your dog forward with field training.
